Westgate Park, a cherished landmark and community gathering space in Columbus, Ohio’s historic Westgate neighborhood, not only offers recreational amenities but also houses two critical water towers that supply millions of gallons of usable water for the surrounding area. When the eastern water tower faced demolition, the City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities sought a solution that would maintain the water capacity provided by the towers.
PRIME AE partnered with the City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities under a CA/CI contract to address the challenge. The project included the demolition of the defunct water tank and the construction of a new 2 million-gallon elevated water storage tank in Westgate Park. Additionally, a new 20-inch water main with connections to both tanks and hydrants was installed, along with a storm sewer connecting to a new rain garden and detention pond. Other aspects encompassed the extension of the existing sanitary sewer to the new tank – driveway installation, parking lot improvements, replacement of an existing security fence, restoration of sidewalk and green space within the park, and the installation of all SCADA, communication, controls, and electrical equipment for the new tank.
PRIME AE took charge of contract administration and construction inspection, meticulously overseeing the project’s execution. Our team was on site to manage pay applications, contract change orders, construction schedules, and progress tracking. Field observations and daily construction activity were thoroughly documented and reported for contract and specification compliance.
Most importantly, PRIME AE facilitated all communication and relationships between the contractors, owner representatives, and other entities and departments. As a result, the Department of Public Utilities was able to fulfill its mission of maintaining utility continuity and functionality for the residents of the city.
