Monson-Palmer Bridge Replacement
State Avenue over Quaboag River
This bridge, originally built in 1929, was exhibiting serious signs of deterioration. The existing structure is a 126-ft 3 span continuous concrete tee beam bridge. PRIME AE is performing design for complete bridge replacement. The new bridge is planned to be a 160-ft two span structure, widened to accommodate pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The bridge will maintain the existing roadway alignment and vertical profile.
PRIME AE is presently finalizing the Bridge Type Selection Worksheet (Type Study). This bridge is in an environmentally sensitive region with many constraints. It will remain open to through traffic during construction. Accelerated Bridge Construction and Innovative design concepts are being considered for replacement bridge.
