Serving as a key connection between Jacksonville, FL and the coastal area of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, SR 212/Beach Boulevard carries residents and tourists to their coastal destinations. District 2 of the Florida DOT selected current members of the PRIME AE team to design the roadway landscape on a 2.2-mile stretch of the road with a goal of creating a welcoming gateway to the coast for beachgoers.
With this goal in mind, our team coordinated with an adjacent project to ensure an aesthetically unified landscape design along the roadway. Because landscape areas along the road corridor were limited, we performed a critical analysis to maximize landscape opportunities in even the most constrained spaces. Complete project development services included design development and final landscape and irrigation design plans, including several cost opinions. PRIME AE also provided post-design services, performing site visits at critical project milestones to keep the project moving.
Located in the heart of hurricane country, this project was under construction when both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Matthew impacted the Jacksonville area. We met this major challenge head-on, utilizing a unique large palm staking detail which withstood the high winds and rain without any failures, and prevented palms from falling in the roadway. As a result, we were able to successfully support completion of the project even in hazardous weather conditions, providing travelers a safe and striking gateway to the beach.
