Phoenix Road is a two-lane road that traverses northeast to southwest and intersects the Gunpowder Falls River at Bridge No. BC 6507. Located in Baltimore County, Maryland, the bridge welcomes an average of 2,000 vehicles a day. This roadway renovation forms an integral part of the broader bridge replacement initiative.
As the lead engineering consultant for the City of Baltimore’s Department of Transportation, PRIME AE spearheads both bridge and roadway design. The roadway’s approach is notably narrow, measuring around 20 feet at both ends.
Spanning Gunpowder Falls, the bridge oversees the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail, part of Gunpowder Falls State Park managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The area comprises mildly forested floodplain and wetlands.
Our design carefully integrates rural surroundings, considering factors like design speed, roadside grading, lane and shoulder width, and pedestrian pathways. While the bridge widens to 30 feet, the two-lane approach road remains approximately 20 feet wide, maintaining the rural character. PRIME AE proposes subtle enhancements to existing geometrics, aiming to improve sightlines, distance visibility, and overall driving experience within normal conditions.
Beyond the bridge and roadway design, our responsibilities encompass storm drain design, stormwater management, public engagement, NEPA Permits, traffic signal removal, full detour planning, and construction staging/access plans.
The bridge spans Gunpowder Falls, offering a vista over the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail, a segment of Gunpowder Falls State Park managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, encompassing serene forested floodplains and wetlands.
In our design approach, we intricately blend with the rural landscape, meticulously considering elements such as design speed, roadside grading, lane and shoulder widths, and pedestrian pathways. While the bridge expands to 30 feet, the two-lane approach road retains its rustic charm at approximately 20 feet wide. PRIME AE proposes subtle enhancements to existing geometrics, aiming to refine sightlines, distance visibility, and overall driving experience under standard conditions.
Beyond our focus on bridge and roadway design, our purview extends to storm drain design, stormwater management, public engagement, NEPA Permits, traffic signal removal, full detour planning, and comprehensive construction staging and access plans.
