An important U.S. military hub in South Korea, Osan Air Base is the headquarters for Seventh Air Force, PACAF’s 51st Fighter Wing, a number of tenants, and the Republic of Korea Air Force Operations Command. The Air Operations Terminal at Osan functions primarily to offload and onload planes and trucks, mostly with palletized material. The busy terminal handles an average of 800 pallets per month. PRIME AE was engaged to validate the scope, requirements, and cost of a new Air Operations Terminal to replace the existing facility and improve operational functioning.
The facility requirements include special storage areas for temporary storage of hazardous and secure materials, refrigerated items, and arms. Administrative areas, vehicle storage and maintenance, secure and non-secure servers, and a secure computer room with redundant power are also required. Located in a flood plain, flooding presents a constant challenge during rainy season conditions. Flight line height restrictions also apply.
The team spent four days at Osan Air Base to meet with personnel, conduct a charrette, and collect existing conditions. In preparation for the site visit, we thoroughly reviewed government-provided documents, issued needs lists, project schedules, meeting agendas, and other documents. An additional requirement was that the project design meet LEED® Silver requirements.
PRIME AE’s experience with federal work helped to complete the project to all federal requirements, keeping the active air base running successfully and driving its mission in the region.
