The Scioto River and its many tributaries weave an essential thread through the fabric of the city of Columbus. Rising in Hardin County and flowing south through the city, it is a source of recreation and beautification for the entire metro area. Protecting the environmental integrity of the watershed is a key goal for the city of Columbus.
Hayden Run enters the Scioto River from the west after making its way through Hayden Run Falls Park on the northwestern border of Columbus, and gives the nearby Hayden Run Road its name. When the existing aerial sewer located at Hayden Run Rd over the Scioto River ravine was experiencing persistent leaks, the city of Columbus asked PRIME AE to oversee the replacement the aerial sanitary sewer, which runs over a 40-foot-deep tributary valley to the Scioto River.
In addition to the pipe replacement, the goal of the project was to restore structural integrity in the existing concrete piers and pipe supports. PRIME AE’s Construction Management & Survey (CM&S) team members inspected the work, produced as-builts, and coordinated with the nearby apartment complex for access through the construction site. We also performed material testing on the concrete pier rehabilitation. A sanitary bypass system was utilized to maintain existing sanitary service during construction.
Working as a trusted partner with stakeholders including city representatives, construction service providers, and environmental organizations, PRIME AE oversaw an effective solution that repaired the leaking aerial sewer pipes, protecting the Scioto River area for the use and enjoyment of Columbus residents.
