Replacement Bridge over Recreational Waterway
Lanes Mill Bridge
Showing signs of deterioration, the century-old Lanes Mill Bridge over Four Mile Creek required a complete replacement. As part of a design-build team, PRIME AE provided the engineering services for the design and construction of a newer and safer 143-foot span bridge.
The new structure is a single-span prestressed concrete I-beam with composite concrete deck and semi-integral abutments on spread footings. In addition to the bridge design, PRIME AE designed approximately 600-feet of associated roadway construction to improve safety on each approach.
Lanes Mill Bridge sits over Four Mile Creek, a waterway that wanders across Butler County and includes a MetroPark with areas to access pedestrian and equestrian trails, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing.
PRIME AE designed a five-foot wide pedestrian path under the east end of the bridge with a minimum 10-foot vertical clearance to accommodate horseback riding. The project tied into the Four Mile Creek Metropark parking lot and included a canoe / kayak launch access.
