Shane Kelly

GIS Analyst

Q: How did you come to PRIME AE?
A: I was working a summer internship in local government where I befriended a now-former PRIME AE colleague, who eventually helped me join the team up here in Baltimore. A series of ‘its-a-small-world’s!

Q: Describe your role and what you do at PRIME AE.
A: I am a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Analyst who organizes all types of location-based data – utility asset management, setting up CAD basemaps, and creating various databases and sketches that support engineering projects.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your job?
A: Personally, I love that my job balances outdoor and indoor work. What we develop in the office is often the result of a few days of field work, such as defining a wetland, and that really keeps me grounded in what I’m doing.

Q: What advice would you give to folks just starting their career?
A: Get used to continually learning new skills and technologies. Having a specialty is great, but if you can’t adapt to changing needs and circumstances it can be difficult today.

Q: How are you involved in your community?
A: I play in a reggae band in Baltimore, and we frequently perform at festivals and local organizations. I find music to be a very powerful community builder.

Q: What are you most proud of in your life?
A: Playing saxophone, simply because it makes me the happiest.

Q: If there was one person you could meet, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: Nikola Tesla, he was smarter than Edison and I’d love to see his take on our power grid.

Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Confident, Strategic, Caring
