PRIME AE is honored to announce that we have earned a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2023 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition. Known as the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry,” this prestigious distinction recognizing engineering firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value at the national level.
In partnership with Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), PRIME AE successfully completed the Replacement of Clayton Road bridge over I-95 in Harford County, MD.
The replacement of the Clayton Road overpass was instrumental in improving mobility, access, capacity, and safety on the I-95 corridor. With the incorporation of modern design materials to address future maintenance needs along with drainage enhancements to address local flood control, it also provides future positive social, economic, and environmental benefits to both MDTA and the public.
This overpass has several unique site features that contributed to the complexity of the project. Challenges included a wider I-95 cross-section, a restrictive ROW width, the lack of a storm drainage system, and an existing 108-inch water main and adjacent undersized box culvert with a 24-foot cover that were close to the proposed south abutment. As a result of the modern construction approach, materials, and site features incorporated in this project, the team was able to successfully meet MDTA’s needs in achieving cost-effective and sustainable solutions using innovative technology. The bridge opened to traffic one month ahead of schedule.
The National Award Gala will be held on June 13, 2023, where members of PRIME AE and our client MDTA will accept the award.
Congratulations to the entire project team!
