The scope of work for this project was to perform deck repairs and install a latex modified concrete overlay for the entire continuous span deck surface. The project limits were from approach span abutments up to the bascule span. The total length of the deck rehabilitation is 2,176 linear feet. Elaborate traffic control plans were used to safely control traffic during the staged construction.
Rehabilitation work was performed in two stages. The duration of each stage was approximately three months. The existing deck surface was removed to a 4-inch depth by hydro-demolition. Erosion and sediment control was most critical for this method of removal. Continuous vacuum operation was performed behind the hydro-demolition process. Once the deck demolition was completed additional repairs, such as deck patching and reinforcement bar repairs, were performed. After all prep work was performed, the 4-inch-thick latex modified concrete overlay was placed to line and grade with the use of a Bidwell Paving Machine.
PRIME’s Project Engineer worked with a team of inspectors and the SHA throughout the entire project duration to ensure the contractor delivered a quality product at the time of completion and the contract was completed on time and within budget.
