East Branch Brandywine Trail

Chester County, PA
Chester County, Pennsylvania

This trail project runs along the east side of the Brandywine Creek from Harmony Hill Road to just beyond an abandoned bridge spanning the creek, into West Bradford Township. The length of the project is one mile, and construction costs were $1.3 million. Portions of the trail corridor are within the 100-year floodplain, and there are minor crossings in the wetlands. The project also entails the removal of an existing roadway bridge and its abutments and their replacement with new abutments and a 60-foot span, 12-foot-wide Glue-Lam timber superstructure.

The projects main construction work included grading, installation of storm water management controls, installing trail base material, base compaction, and placement of HMA base and wearing courses. Additionally, an existing bridge and its abutments were demolished, and new abutments and a glue-lam timber superstructure were installed. PRIME was responsible for the Inspector-in-Charge role and had direct oversight for all facets of construction during the entire project duration.
